Clara (YC P26) is hiring a growth engineer to bring AI doctors to market
Y Combinator's latest batch has spawned Clara (YC P26), a startup promising "AI doctors" that's now hunting for a founding full-stack growth engineer to drag them to market. Because nothing says "trustworthy medical innovation" like needing a growth hacker before you've shipped a single diagnosis. This is the classic YC play: find the hype, slap a "founding" title on a role, and pray the AI hype cycle carries you to the next round.

Let's talk about what this job posting actually reveals. Clara is hiring a "founding full-stack growth engineer" β€” not a clinician, not a regulatory affairs lead, not a safety researcher. Growth. The AI doctor is apparently ready to be sold, but the company needs someone to "bring it to market." That's the tell. If your AI medical product needs a growth hacker before it needs a clinical validation team, you're not in the healthcare business. You're in the fundraising business. This is peak YC-era AI theater. The "founding" title is doing heavy lifting here β€” it signals equity, autonomy, and mission β€” but what it really means is "we don't have a product-market fit yet and we need you to build growth loops from zero while we chase the next tranche." There's nothing wrong with that in SaaS. In healthcare, where a bad rollout can literally kill someone, it's more than a little alarming. The regulatory elephant is absent from this job description. No mention of FDA pathways, HIPAA compliance, or clinical trials. That's either because they're targeting the unregulated "wellness" gray zone or because they're hoping to move fast and break things β€” and in medicine, broken things bleed. The open source community has been watching the AI-in-healthcare bubble inflate for years, and it's the same pattern: hype-heavy, evidence-light, growth-engineer-first. I'm not saying Clara is malicious. I'm saying the incentives are structural. YC accelerates founders, founders need exits, and exits need growth metrics. When the product is an AI doctor, the growth metrics are patients. That's a conflict of interest that no A/B test can fix.
