Satisfaction with K-12 education drops to new low: Gallup

The new Gallup/Walton Family Foundation numbers are striking not just because satisfaction with K-12 schools has hit an all-time low, but because the drop appears to be broad-based. When a measure falls this far, it usually reflects more than a single controversy or one political flashpoint. It suggests a deeper erosion of public confidence in one of America’s core institutions — and that carries consequences far beyond the next school board election. Part of the story is political. Education has become a front-line culture-war battleground, with debates over library books, classroom discussions of race and gender, and parental rights dominating headlines and school board meetings. Republicans’ satisfaction has fallen sharply, and while Democrats remain more positive, they are hardly enthusiastic. That partisan gap matters, but the overall downward trend should worry anyone who believes public schools are essential to democratic citizenship and economic opportunity.
