Strange old woman bust

I have this funky old woman head bust on what I think is a carved out piece of old redwood? The bust itself it plastic, which raises even more questions. Like...why in the living hell would someone mold an old woman's plastic bust, strap it to a pretty nice piece of wood, and call it a day? Are there more of these?
