Acueducto de La Partida in Madrid, Spain

Madrid may have its famous fountains and grand boulevards, but hidden in the Casa de Campo is a rather more unexpected piece of engineering: a small 18th-century aqueduct. Built in 1778, the Acueducto de La Partida carried water from the park’s lake to the Huerta de la Partida, helping to irrigate the royal gardens and orchards. Its designer was Francisco Sabatini, the royal architect responsible for some of Madrid’s most monumental landmarks.
