Cursor just drew a line across the entire software supply chain. Origin isn't just another git host—it’s Cursor saying “we own the loop, from prompt to pipeline.” That's not a product update; that’s a power move.
Why it matters: the forge is the gravitational center of developer workflow. GitHub became the default because it was the easiest place for code to live. But AI-native development is rewriting the architecture of trust—today, the center of gravity is less about repos and more about generated context, caching, and continuous AI rewrites. Cursor knows this.
This signals a wider tectonic shift. The next decade isn’t tool-vs-tool, it’s infrastructure-vs-infrastructure: AI editors start swallowing version control, CI, and environments until they become one platform. Maybe that's the real origin story.
If AI writes the code, the battleground becomes who owns the history. Fork fast, or get orphaned.
